Sleep Apnea Treatment

An Appliance to Help You Sleep Better

Many people believe that they sleep peacefully every night, but still experience symptoms of sleep deprivation. Others may realize that they snore loudly every night, but don’t believe it’s anything to worry about. For these and other reasons, people who have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) don’t always realize that they have it until they seek treatment for their snoring or excessive fatigue. At our office, we can help many patients who suffer from sleep apnea alleviate the cause of it so they can once again sleep peacefully and quietly throughout the night.

How sleep apnea occurs

Sleep apnea occurs when mouth and throat tissues collapse into your airway, making it impossible for you to breathe. The process occurs gradually as the oral tissues increasingly block your airway, which leads to the increasingly loud sounds of snoring that most sleep apnea patients experience. Once the obstruction is complete, your breathing will stop until your body wakes up and clears the airway. This allows you to breathe again, but only for a short while, as the sleep apnea cycle will begin again as your body settles back down to sleep.

Signs that you have OSA

The chronically loud snoring associated with sleep apnea is one of the condition’s most common giveaways. Unlike typical snoring, sleep apnea produces a distinctive pattern of increasingly louder snoring, followed by silence as you stop breathing for a few moments. However, besides snoring, sleep apnea can also cause several other symptoms, such as:

  • Extreme daytime drowsiness and fatigue
  • Frequent headaches and migraines in the morning
  • Difficulty concentrating or remembering things
  • Unusual irritability, or constant mood swings
  • And more
